Love stories between tennis players are not uncommon, with legendary couples who have formed on the courts. Here are the 11 most famous, some of which still last.

After meeting at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Mirka Vavrinec and Roger Federer have never left each other’s side. They married in 2009 and have four children, two pairs of twins (girls born in 2009, boys born in 2014). Mirka, ranked No 76 at her best, ended her career in 2002 due to a foot injury. Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles during his career. This success was in part made possible by Mirka, by Federer’s own admission, who believes that his wife’s early retirement helped him reach the heights.

Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf

Among the most iconic couple in tennis, Graf and Agassi were married in October 2001, at a time when only the American was still active on the circuit. They had two children, Jaden Gil (2001) and Jaz Elle (2003). Both world No 1 during their career, they compiled a combined 30 Grand Slam titles (22 for Graf, 8 for Agassi).

Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert

Evert and Connors were engaged between 1974 and 1975, forming an ultra-glamorous couple at the time. They won Wimbledon the same year, in 1974. The two Americans, ex-world No1s and who have together 26 Grand Slam titles (18 for Evert, 8 for Connors), broke off their engagement shortly before the 1975 Wimbledon. They reconciled in 1976 only to separate for good two years later.

Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils

Svitolina and Monfils have been together since early 2019, when the Frenchman sat in the Ukrainian's box during her matches at the Australian Open. The couple are very active on social networks, in particular on their joint account "G.E.M.S Life" on Instagram. This name is an acronym for Gaël Elina Monfils Svitolina, and means "diamonds" in English.

Flavia Pennetta and Fabio Fognini

Together since 2014, Pennetta and Fognini were married in 2016. They have since had two children: Federico in 2017 and Farah in 2019. Pennetta ended her career after winning the 2015 US Open, while Fognini, ex-No 9 in the world, continues his journey on the ATP circuit.

Alison van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen

Van Uyvtanck and Minnen formalised their relationship in July 2019, when they kissed after their match at the Karlsruhe tournament. The two Belgians have actually been in a relationship since 2016 and regularly line up in doubles together. Van Uytvanck was also Minnen's "coach" at the Linz tournament in November 2020.

Mariana Simionescu and Bjorn Borg

Simionescu and Borg married in 1980, before divorcing in 1984. The Romanian won the Roland-Garros junior title in 1973 before climbing to 36th place in the junior rankings. The Swede, star of his time, won 11 Grand Slam titles (6 at Roland Garros and 5 at Wimbledon). Borg has married twice more since.

Nicole Vaidisova and Radek Stepanek

Stepanek and Vaidisova remarried in 2018, after a first marriage that lasted three years, between 2010 and 2013. The two-time Davis Cup winner with the Czech Republic, who had been engaged to Martina Hingis in the past, and the ex -WTA world No 7 have a daughter, Stella.

Kim Clijsters and Lleyton Hewitt

Clijsters and Hewitt met in 2000, at the Australian Open, and even got engaged in 2004. But they separated a few months before their scheduled wedding, in February 2005. The two were both world No. 1 during their careers, Hewitt winning his major titles (Wimbledon, US Open, Masters x2) during this period. Clijsters won the WTA Finals twice during their romance, but clinched all four of her Grand Slam titles afterwards (US Open 2005, 2009, 2010 and Australian Open 2011). Note that they reached the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon together in 2000.

Donna Vekic and Stan Wawrinka, 2017 Madrid Open

Vekic and Wawrinka lived a four-year romance. The Croatian, 19th in the world at her best ranking, was notably in Wawrinka's box during his coronation at the US Open in 2016, his third and last Grand Slam title. They separated in 2019.

Kristina Mladenovic and Dominic Thiem

Mladenovic and Thiem shared a love affair for over two years. The couple, combining the Frenchwoman, once-ranked No 10 and the Austrian, winner of the US Open in 2020, formalised their separation in November 2019.
