Swiatek, Osaka, Raducanu star as field for Billie Jean King Cup Finals is set
The Finals will tale place in November
Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka and Emma Raducanu all starred as they led their respective countries to victories and a place in this year’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Swuate won both her singles as Poland beat Switzerland 4-0 and the world No 1 said she can’t wait for the Finals, which will be played in November.
“I’m super happy and proud of everybody,” Swiatek said, quoted by the Billie Jean King Cup website. “It’s been a really fun week so I’m happy that this time I could lead my team to be in the Finals.
“Hopefully we’re going to finish it in November, but I’m super proud of what we achieved for these two days.”
Osaka back with a win, RADUCANU AT THE DOUBLE
Osaka enjoyed her return to Billie Jean King Cup action, beating Yulia Putintseva on day one but it was Nao Hibino who sealed the 3-1 win over Kazakhstan, winning her second singles rubber.
And Raducanu, back in the GB fold after a long time away with injury, showed resolve and class as she beat former world No 4 Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry, the latter a 4-6 6-1 7-6 (1) win to put Britain through to November’s Finals.
“It’s incredible because two years ago we were the host nation of the Finals, we were the wildcard entry but we still made the semi-finals and that was a fantastic week for the team,” Britain captain Anne Keothavong said. “But on this occasion we’ve qualified ourselves. The players have done it, the team have worked together really well, and we deserve our spot there. “
That’s where I believe this team belongs. The girls are all hungry to go out there and perform. They’ve got a lot of things to do before then, but why not, it’s all to play for.”
USA, Germany, Romania, Slovakia and Australia also booked their places in the Finals.
