BJK Cup Finals to be hosted in Shenzhen for next three years
The women’s international team competition was held in Malaga last year, with Glasgow, Prague and Seville also hosting past editions
Billie Jean king Cup organisers have announced that the Finals of the tournament will take place in Shenzhen, China, for the next three years.
Starting in 2025, hosts China, reigning champions Italy and six qualifiers will contest the week-long Finals, with a date yet to be confirmed.
Prague, Glasgow, Seville and Malaga hosted the first four editions, but organisers believe that the international team event should not only remain in Europe for too long.
“The announcement demonstrates our commitment to bringing the passion and excitement of nation versus nation team tennis to markets around the world,” Billie Jean King said.
Crowds at the Finals have been disappointing in recent years, and China playing host raises some further logistical issues with attracting crowd numbers.
Japan and Kazakhstan are the only other Asian nations with a chance to qualify, meaning ticket sales and attendance will depend largely on interest from the Chinese.
