Pavlyuchenkova latest to test positive for Covid-19 on arrival in Australia
The Russian arrived in Australia on Tuesday and tested positive for Covid-19
Three-time Australian Open quarter-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is the latest player to test positive for Covid-19 ahead of the 2022 season.
The Russian posted on social media: “I was fully vaccinated and was preparing for the start of the season in Dubai. But we live in a very difficult and unpredictable time. Right now I am in complete isolation, in a special hotel, and following all the protocols under the supervision of doctors.”
The 30-year-old added that she would return to court “when it’s safe for everyone” but made no mention of any impact on her intention to play the year’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne.
Pavlyuchenkova is one of several players to test positive following training or competition in the United Arab Emirates. That includes Rafael Nadal, Andrey Rublev, Denis Shapovalov, Belinda Bencic and Ons Jabeur, who were all in Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, plus Emma Raducanu who tested positive before the exhibition began.
