The 2025 Australian Open draw dropped on Thursday (January 9) and it emerged that three of the biggest tennis superstars—Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev—have landed in the same half. Moreover, world No 1 Jannik Sinner and Russia’s Daniil Medvedev are in for a third semi-final clash.

Sinner, the top-half leader, will begin his title defence against a tough opposition in Chile’s Nicolas Jarry and Zverev, leading the bottom draw, will take on French wildcard Lucas Pouille in his opener.

Djokovic, the 10-time champion and No 7 seed this year, is scheduled to face off Next Gen star Nishesh Basavareddy, who notably made the semi-finals in Auckland on Thursday, in the first round. Third seed Alcaraz will clash with Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko, whereas Medvedev (5) starts against Thai wildcard Kasidit Samrej.

Nick Kyrgios, whose participation came under the cloud of doubts as he recently sustained an injury, is pitted against Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in the opening round.

The draw was notably released in the presence of singles defending champions Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne Park.
