Borges silences Australian Open crowd, beating Thompson in straight sets

Portuguese Nuno Borges won against Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 27 seed, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Borges, ranked No 33, will play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Portuguese edged out Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2, 7-5).
Thompson, ranked No 27, defeated German qualifier Dominik Koepfer (7-6 (3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
