Australian Open: Zakharova makes third round
Anastasia Zakharova beat Kaja Juvan 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday night. She’ll play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 16 seed, and Pole Magdalena Frech in the next round
Russian qualifier Anastasia Zakharova defeated Slovenian Kaja Juvan 6-1, 6-1 to move into the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday night.
Zakharova, ranked No 190, will face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 16 seed, and Pole Magdalena Frech next.
Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old Russian won against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (2-6, 6-0, 6-3).
Juvan, ranked No 109, beat Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 23 seed (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round.
