Czech Marketa Vondrousova has withdrawn injured from the 2025 Australian Open ahead of her first-round match against Jana Fett on Monday in Melbourne.

The 2023 Wimbledon champion issued a statement on social media explaining that she is still struggling with the injury that she suffered last week in Adelaide.

“Heartbroken to withdraw from the Australian Open due to an injury I sustained in Adelaide. I was looking forward to the tournament but health comes first. Thank you for your support and hopefully see you on court soon,” she said.

The 25-year-old had just returned to the WTA Tour this year for the first time since Wimbledon 2024, having undergone shoulder surgery.

She left the court in her second-round match against Diana Shnaider in Adelaide in tears, after receiving a medical timeout for what appeared to be a back issue.

Vondrousova’s spot in the main draw has been replaced by lucky loser Harriet Dart, who will take on Fett instead.
