Australian Open: Van Assche upsets Musetti to reach third round

Frenchman Luca Van Assche advanced to the third round of the Australian Open by defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 25 seed, 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0 at Melbourne Park.

Van Assche, ranked No 79, will play the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 7 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the 19-year-old Frenchman won against Australian wildcard James Duckworth (6-7 (2), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3).

Musetti, ranked No 28, beat Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2) in the previous round.
