Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 18 seed, won against Italian Camila Giorgi 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the second round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.
Azarenka, ranked No 22, will face Dane Clara Tauson next.
