Australian Open: Shnaider beats wildcard Tomljanovic to reach third round

Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 12 seed, reached the third round of the Australian Open by beating Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic 6-4, 7-5 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Shnaider, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between lucky loser Harriet Dart and Croat Donna Vekic, the No 18 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old Russian won against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (7-6 (4), 6-4).
Tomljanovic, ranked No 114, edged out American Ashlyn Krueger (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season.
