Australian Open: Shang ends qualifier Nagal’s run to reach third round
Juncheng Shang edged out Sumit Nagal 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday night. He’ll play Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, in the next round
Chinese wildcard Juncheng Shang edged out Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.
Shang, ranked No 140, will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, next.
In the previous round, the 18-year-old Chinese won against American Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 1-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2).
Nagal, ranked No 137, defeated Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 31 seed (6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round.
