Australian Open: Rublev wins, to meet Evans in third round
The Russian won against Emil Ruusuvuori 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 as he continues his quest for his first Grand Slam semi-final
Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, advanced to the third round of the Australian Open by defeating Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Thursday.
Rublev, ranked No 6 in the world, will play No 25 seed Dan Evans for a spot in the fourth round.
The Russian had defeated Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) ahead of his victory. Rublev is looking to reach his first semi-final at a Grand Slam tournament this fortnight.
In the previous round, Ruusuvuori, ranked No 46, edged out Australian qualifier Max Purcell (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (11)).
