Australian wildcard Alexei Popyrin advanced to the second round of the Australian Open by defeating Chun-Hsin Tseng 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-1 at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.

Popyrin, ranked No 113, will face American Taylor Fritz, the No 8 seed, next.
