Australian Open: Pegula reaches third quarter-final in a row in Melbourne
Jessica Pegula won against Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 6-2 on Sunday night and will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 24 seed, and Chinese Lin Zhu in the next round
American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open for the third year in a row. After a highly contested first set, Pegula took over and got the win against Czech Barbora Krejcikova (n°20) in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) at Melbourne Park on Sunday.
Pegula, ranked No 3, will now play the winner of the match between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 24 seed, and Chinese Lin Zhu next.
The American beat Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-0, 6-1), Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-2, 7-6 (5)), and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (6-0, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Krejcikova, ranked No 23, defeated qualifier Sara Bejlek (6-3, 6-1), French qualifier Clara Burel (6-4, 6-1), and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-2, 6-3).
