Australian Open: Pegula cruises past Kostyuk, to meet Krejcikova in fourth round
The American won against Marta Kostyuk 6-0, 6-2 on Friday and has yet to drop a set this tournament through three rounds
American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, defeated Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 6-0, 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Friday.
The American has yet to drop a set in the tournament, beating Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-0, 6-1) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-2, 7-6 (5)) in previous rounds.
Pegula has reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open for the last two years in a row and if she wants to make it to the last eight for the third year in a row she will need to beat Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 20 seed and former French Open champion. This will be the first meeting between the two players.
The American is also looking to reach her first Grand Slam semi-final.
Earlier in the tournament, Kostyuk, ranked No 61, won against American Amanda Anisimova, the No 28 seed (6-3, 6-4) and Australian wildcard Olivia Gadecki (6-2, 6-1).
