Australian Open: Machac comes through arm-wrestle with Opelka to make third round

No 26 seed Tomas Machac won against American Reilly Opelka 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-4 to move into the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

Machac, ranked No 25, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 7 seed, and Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria next.

Ahead of his victory, Tomas Machac defeated Indian Sumit Nagal (6-3, 6-1, 7-5).

Opelka, ranked No 170, won against Belgian qualifier Gauthier Onclin (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
