German lucky loser Eva Lys reached the third round of the Australian Open by edging out Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at Melbourne Park.
Lys, ranked No 128, will play Romanian Jaqueline Cristian next.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, the German won against Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell (6-2, 6-2).
Gracheva, ranked No 69, defeated American Catherine McNally (6-3, 6-4) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season.
