Australian Open: Khachanov beats Diallo to reach third round

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 19 seed, defeated Canadian Gabriel Diallo 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

Khachanov, ranked No 19, will play American Alex Michelsen and Australian wildcard James McCabe next.

The Russian won against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-3) earlier in the week.

In the first round of the tournament, Diallo, ranked No 86, beat Italian Luca Nardi (6-7 (1), 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-1, 6-2).
