No 20 seed Arthur Fils edged out Quentin Halys 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5 to advance to the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Fils, ranked No 21, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 14 seed, and Lebanese qualifier Hady Habib next.
Ahead of his victory, Arthur Fils edged out Finn Otto Virtanen (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4).
Halys, ranked No 74, overhauled Australian Adam Walton (4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4), 7-5) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
