Australian Open: De Minaur through to fourth round for the third time year in a row
The Australian will face Sebastian Korda, the No 29 seed, or Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, in the next round
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 10 seed, reached the last 16 of the Australian Open by defeating Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 at Melbourne Park on Friday.
This is the third year in a row that the Australian is into the second week of his home Grand Slam but he will be hoping to make the quarter-finals for the first time in Melbourne.
De Minaur, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between American Sebastian Korda, the No 29 seed, and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, next.
In the previous rounds, the Australian benefited from the retirement of Canadian Milos Raonic (6-7 (6), 6-3, 2-0) and won against Italian Matteo Arnaldi (6-3, 6-0, 6-3).
Cobolli, ranked No 100, beat Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 18 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5) and Russian Pavel Kotov (7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2) earlier in the week.
