Australian Open: Davidovich Fokina overturns two-set deficit to end Mensik’s Melbourne run

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina pulled off a superb comeback from two sets down to beat rising young talent Jakub Mensik 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-2 and move into the last 16 of the Australian Open.
For the second match in a row, the Spaniard has battled from two sets to love down to claim a thoroughly impressive victory.
After dispatching Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 29 seed (6-7 (7), 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1, 6-3) in the second round, Davidovich Fokina once again took the scenic route as he overcame the supremely promising talent of teenager Mensik to reach the fourth round at Melbourne Park.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 66, will play American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, Mensik, ranked No 48, won against Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili (6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3) and edged out Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed (6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4).
