Australian Open: Carballes Baena makes third round
Roberto Carballes Baena won against James Duckworth 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 on Wednesday night and will face the winner of the match between Japanese Kei Nishikori and American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, in the next round
Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena beat Australian James Duckworth 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Carballes Baena, ranked No 57, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Kei Nishikori and American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, next.
The Spaniard edged out Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 23 seed (1-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (1)) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, Duckworth, ranked No 89, won against Swiss Dominic Stricker (6-2, 6-4, 6-2).
