Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena edged out Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 23 seed, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (1) to advance to the second round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Monday.

Carballes Baena, ranked No 57, will face the winner of the match between Australian James Duckworth and Swiss Dominic Stricker next.
