Australian Open: Bonzi continues winning ways, into third round
Benjamin Bonzi edged out Francesco Passaro 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on Wednesday. He’ll face No 24 seed Jiri Lehecka in the next round
Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi advanced to the third round of the Australian Open by edging out Italian lucky loser Francesco Passaro 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.
Bonzi, ranked No 64, will face No 24 seed Jiri Lehecka next. The frenchman has now won 29 of his last 32 matches on the pro tour.
The Frenchman beat Belgian David Goffin (6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (7)) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, Passaro, ranked No 104, benefited from the abandonment of Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 10 seed (7-5, 2-1).
