Australian Open: Andreeva survives against Uchijima to make third round

Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 14 seed, edged out Japanese Moyuka Uchijima 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8) to reach the third round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

Andreeva, ranked No 15, will face Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 23 seed, next.

The 17-year-old Russian defeated Marie Bouzkova (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season.

In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, Uchijima, ranked No 63, edged out Pole Magda Linette (4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8)).
