Australian Open: Alcaraz cruises into third round

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the No 3 seed, moved into the third round of the Australian Open by beating Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

Alcaraz, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 27 seed, and Portuguese Nuno Borges next.

In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, the 21-year-old Spaniard won against Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko (6-1, 7-5, 6-1).

Nishioka, ranked No 65, won against Tunisian qualifier Aziz Dougaz (3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-3) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025.
