Australian Open: Adelaide champ Ostapenko through to second round

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 11 seed, moved into the second round of the Australian Open by beating Australian wildcard Kimberly Birrell 7-6 (5), 6-1 at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.
Ostapenko, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic and Australian Ajla Tomljanovic next.
Ostapenko won the title in Adelaide last week and improved to 8-1 for the season with her latest win.
