Jannik Sinner won the title on Sunday night against Alexander Zverev
Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, lifted the Australian Open trophy by beating German Alexander Zverev, the second seed, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Sunday night.
That’s Sinner third Grand Slam title in three finals after the Australian Open 2024 and the US Open 2024. Pour Zverev, it’s the third loss in three major finals.
Sinner, ranked No 1, defeated Chilean Nicolas Jarry (7-6 (2), 7-6 (5), 6-1), Australian wildcard Tristan Schoolkate (4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3), American Marcos Giron (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Dane Holger Rune, the No 13 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2), Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-2, 6-1) and American Ben Shelton, the No 21 seed (7-6 (2), 6-2, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament in 2025, Zverev, ranked No 2, beat French wildcard Lucas Pouille (6-4, 6-4, 6-4), Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero (6-1, 6-4, 6-1), Jacob Fearnley (6-3, 6-4, 6-4), Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 14 seed (6-1, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2), American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed (7-6 (1), 7-6, 2-6, 6-1) and Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 7 seed (7-6 (5) ret.).
