Aryna Sabalenka defeated Coco Gauff 7-6 (2), 6-4 on Thursday night and will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska and Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 12 seed, for the title
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, moved into the final of the Australian Open by winning against American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, 7-6 (2), 6-4 at Melbourne Park on Thursday night.
Sabalenka, ranked No 2, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska and Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 12 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Belarusian beat German qualifier Ella Seidel (6-0, 6-1), qualifier Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 6-2), Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, the No 28 seed (6-0, 6-0), American Amanda Anisimova (6-3, 6-2) and No 9 seed Barbora Krejcikova (6-2, 6-3).
Gauff, ranked No 4, won against Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-3, 6-0), Caroline Dolehide (7-6 (2), 6-2), Alycia Parks (6-0, 6-2), Pole Magdalena Frech (6-1, 6-2) and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (7-6 (6), 6-7 (3), 6-2) in the previous rounds.
