ALERT – Australian Open: Madison Keys wins her first Grand Slam title
Madison Keys won the final on Saturday night against Aryna Sabalenka
American Madison Keys, the No 19 seed, won the Australian Open title by edging out Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at Melbourne Park on Saturday night.
This is her first major trophy, seven years after her first final at the 2017 US Open.
Keys, ranked No 14, defeated Ann Li (6-4, 7-5), Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (7-6 (1), 2-6, 7-5), No 10 seed Danielle Collins (6-4, 6-4), Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 6 seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-3), Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 28 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed (5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (8)) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, Sabalenka, ranked No 1, beat American Sloane Stephens (6-3, 6-2), Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-3, 7-5), Dane Clara Tauson (7-6 (5), 6-4), Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 14 seed (6-1, 6-2), Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 27 seed (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) and Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 11 seed (6-4, 6-2).
