Resurgent Khachanov battles past Korda to reach Zhuhai final
Karen Khachanov beat Sebastian Korda 7-5, 6-4 on Monday and will play the winner of the match between Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 8 seed, and Russian Aslan Karatsev in the final
Russian Karen Khachanov, the top seed, moved into the final of the Zhuhai Open by defeating American Sebastian Korda, the No 4 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at the Zhuhai Hengqin International Tennis Centre on Monday.
Khachanov, ranked No 15, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 8 seed, and Russian Aslan Karatsev next. It is his first ATP final since January 2022 and his seventh in all, in just his second event back after injury.
Ahead of his victory, the Russian won against Australian qualifier Alex Bolt (6-4, 6-4) and edged out American Mackenzie McDonald, the No 6 seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
Korda, ranked No 33, won against Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-1, 2-6, 6-3) and Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Zhuhai tournament.
