With three finals already in 2025, Auger-Aliassime sets sights on reaching the top
Felix Auger-Aliassime has already captured two ATP titles in 2025 and he will play in a third final on Saturday at the 500-point tournament in Dubai.
Through the first two months of the 2025 ATP season, Felix Auger-Aliassime is the tour leader in match wins (16) and titles (two). The 24-year-old Canadian now finds himself in a third final, as he will battle Stefanos Tsitsipas for the trophy at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday evening.
Thanks in part to triumphs in Adelaide and Montpellier, Auger-Aliassime is No 3 in the live race to Turin for the Nitto ATP Finals — trailing only Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner and runner-up Alexander Zverev.
I hope that this year I’m closing in on the top 10.
Unsurprisingly, the world No 21 has high hopes for not only a Turin appearance but also success at the Grand Slam level.
“I’m trying to as much as I can (to get to the next level),” he said during a post-match press conference in Dubai. “But you have to go day by day, week by week. I can’t jump that quick. I’ve been winning a lot already this year. You don’t win every week, every single week. Maybe Sinner last year, but even him….
“Gradually, I hope that this year — by the end of this year — I’m closing in on the top 10. Hopefully even Turin. That would be a great year.”
Auger-Aliassime has been mostly awesome this season…except at the first Grand Slam. He lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round from two sets up. Auger-Aliassime has reached one major semi-final (2021 US Open) and two other quarters. He has not been past round four of a major since the 2022 Aussie Open.
“I feel like when you start being consistent in other tournaments, dominating players in other tournaments, you come to the Grand Slam with a different belief,” he explained. “I come to every Grand Slam feeling like I want to win, believing I can win. But it’s different when you’ve winning a lot on the ATP Tour. That’s the kind of momentum I’m trying to build and the kind of belief.
“If I do that, then hopefully in the years to come I’ll get my opportunity to lift one of those big trophies.”
