Winston-Salem Open: Sonego advances to semi-finals to face Goffin
The Italian defeated Pavel Kotov 6-3, 7-5 in the quarter-finals on Thursday
Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 10 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open by winning against Russian Pavel Kotov, the No 15 seed, 6-3, 7-5 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Sonego, ranked No 58, will play former top 10 player David Goffin, of Belgium, next. The pair have split their two previous meetings on the pro tennis tour.
This is the 10th ATP Tour semi-final for Sonego and his first in over a year (Umag 2023).
The Italian beat Swiss Dominic Stricker (6-4, 6-1) and Chinese Juncheng Shang (walkover) ahead of his win today.
Earlier in the week, Kotov, ranked No 63, defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 5-7, 6-2) and edged out American lucky loser Zachary Svajda (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
