Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild moved into the last 16 of the Winston-Salem Open by beating Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 8 seed, 7-6 (2), 6-2 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Tuesday evening.
Seyboth Wild, ranked No 69, will play the winner of the match between American qualifier Learner Tien and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, the No 9 seed, next.
The Brazilian edged out Australian James Duckworth (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
