Winston-Salem Open: Purcell edged out Griekspoor to qualify for the quarter-finals
Max Purcell won against Tallon Griekspoor (7-6 (4), 7-6 (2)) on Wednesday.
Australian Max Purcell, one of the in-form players of this summer, moved into the last eight of the Winston-Salem Open on Wednesday by beating Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the second seed, in two tight sets (7-6 (4), 7-6 (2)).
Purcell, ranked No 47, will face the winner of the match between No 5 seed Jiri Lehecka and German Dominik Koepfer next.
In the previous rounds of the Winston-Salem tournament, the Australian defeated Italian Marco Cecchinato (6-4, 6-1) and Russian lucky loser Andrey Kuznetsov (6-4, 6-1).
Griekspoor, ranked No 25, benefited from the abandonment of Jack Draper (7-6 (8)) in the previous round of the Winston-Salem tournament.
