Winston-Salem Open: Mannarino lifts the trophy

Frenchman Adrian Mannarino won the Winston-Salem Openby beating Serb Laslo Djere 7-6 (1), 6-4 at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Saturday night.

This is his second ATP title after s’Hertogenbosch in 2019. Aged 34, the Frenchman will be ATP number 45 on Monday.

Mannarino, ranked No 65, defeated Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell (7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3)) saving four match points, and four seeds after that opener : Finn Emil Ruusuvuori, the No 9 seed (6-4, 6-1), Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-3), American Maxime Cressy, the No 4 seed (6-4, 7-6 (3)) and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the second seed (6-0, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Winston-Salem, Djere, ranked No 89, beat Belgian David Goffin (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), Portuguese João Sousa, the No 16 seed (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)), Australian qualifier Jason Kubler (7-6 (4), 6-7 (9), 6-3), Frenchman Richard Gasquet (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6)) and Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler (7-6 (3), 7-6 (5)).
