Winston-Salem Open: Korda edged out Gasquet to move into the semi-finals
Sebastian Korda edged out Richard Gasquet (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7)) on Thursday.
American Sebastian Korda, the No. 3 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Winston-Salem Open by edging out Frenchman Richard Gasquet, the No. 12 seed, in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7)) at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Korda, ranked No 33, was up 5-3 in the third set before seeing Gasquet coming back, and he was up 6-4 in that tie-break before having to face a match point at 7-6. He won the last three points and so the match.
Korda will face the winner of the match between No. 5 seed Jiri Lehecka and Australian Max Purcell next.
In the previous rounds of the Winston-Salem tournament, the American won against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (6-2, 6-3) and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, the No 14 seed (7-6 (5), 6-3).
Gasquet, ranked No. 57, defeated Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler (6-4, 6-4) and edged out American Brandon Nakashima (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
