Winston-Salem Open: Djere advances to final after 9 match points, Mannarino next

Serb Laslo Djere reached the final of the Winston-Salem Open by defeating Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Saturday night.
Djere needed 9 match points to defeat Huesler. Six missed à 5-4 in the second set, one at 6-5, and two in the tie-break.
Djere, ranked No 89, will face Frenchman Adrian Mannarino next.
This is Djere’s first final on the ATP Tour in 2022. The Serb didn’t win more than two matches in a final draw since April this year. Ahead of his victory, the Serb won against Belgian David Goffin (6-3, 3-6, 6-3), Portuguese João Sousa, the No 16 seed (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)), Australian qualifier Jason Kubler (7-6 (4), 6-7 (9), 6-3) and Frenchman Richard Gasquet (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (6)).
Huesler, ranked No 102, will be No75 on Monday. He won against Swede wildcard Mikael Ymer (6-4, 6-4), Belarusian Ilya Ivashka, the No 11 seed (7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-6 (3)) and No 13 seed Jack Draper (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
