Maxime Cressy aces through to last 16 at Winston-Salem

American Maxime Cressy, the No 4 seed, defeated Australian James Duckworth 6-3, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Tuesday evening.

Cressy, ranked No 34, will play the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 14 seed, and Chilean Alejandro Tabilo next.

34th-ranked Cressy improves to 22-19 on the season, as he wins on his Winston-Salem debut. He hit 13 aces and won 19 of 21 first-serve points in the match – in total, Cressy only lost nine points on sere and never faced a break point.

In the previous round of the Winston-Salem, Duckworth, ranked No 84, edged out Thanasi Kokkinakis (4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)).
