Humbert sweeps past Watanuki to make Citi Open quarter-finals

Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 13 seed, has rollicked his way into the Citi Open quarter-finals, brushing aside Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki for the loss of only two games at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Thursday evening.

The 6-0, 6-2 score line saw Humbert break Watanuki’s serve a total of five times, with the Frenchman crushing 19 winners in the one hour three minute match, making on two unforced errors.

Humbert, ranked No 36, will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 5 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, the Frenchman edged out Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-4).

Watanuki, ranked No 99, benefited from the abandonment of Chinese Yibing Wu (1-4) and won against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 3 seed (7-6 (10), 7-6 (3)) earlier in the tournament.
