WADA says decision in Sinner case will come in 2025
WADA is appealing the decision of the ITIA on the Sinner case
Olivier Niggli, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) director general has said that there is not going to be a decision on the case of world No 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner until the new year.
Sinner tested positive twice this year in March for traces of the banned substance clostebol but was found to be of no fault and was allowed to carry on playing after a decision by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
“It was considered in the decision that there was no fault on the part of Sinner. Our position is that there is still a responsibility of the athlete in relation to his entourage. So it is this legal point that will be debated (before CAS),” Niggli said in an interview to AFP.
“We do not dispute the fact that it could have been a contamination. But we believe that the application of the rules does not correspond to the case law.”
