German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open by winning against American Marcos Giron 6-2, 7-5 at the Wiener Stadthalle on Wednesday evening.
Zverev, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Gael Monfils and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 6 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Vienna tournament, the German beat Austrian wildcard Joel Josef Schwaerzler (6-2, 6-2).
Giron, ranked No 48, defeated Alex Michelsen (7-6 (4), 6-3) during the first round of the Vienna tournament.
