Vienna Open: Sinner makes quarter-finals after winning all-Italian affair

Jannik Sinner defeated lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Vienna Open at the Wiener Stadthalle on Thursday evening.
Sinner, at a career-high of No 4 in the world, was untroubled by his compatriot Sonego, who conceded three breaks for a relatively simple straight sets win to the 22-year-old. The second seed made 83 percent of first serves and struck 20 winners in the one hour, 33 minute match, continuing the fine form that saw him to his third title of the year recently in Beijing.
The win also means Sinner is now 11-0 against other Italians on the ATP Tour.
Next up, Sinner will play the winner of the match between American Frances Tiafoe, the No 7 seed, and Frenchman Gael Monfils next.
Jannik Sinner won against American Ben Shelton (7-6 (2), 7-5) ahead of his victory, while in the previous round of the Vienna tournament, Sonego, ranked No 52, beat Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 5-7, 6-2).
