Dimitrov edges Giron in three to reach Vienna semis
Grigor Dimitrov edged out Marcos Giron 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on Friday afternoon and will play the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the top seed, and Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, in the next round
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov edged out American Marcos Giron 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to move into the last four of the Vienna Open at the Wiener Stadthalle on Friday afternoon.
Dimitrov, ranked No 32, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the top seed, and Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, next.
The Bulgarian defeated Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro (6-3, 6-4) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed (6-3) in the previous rounds of the Vienna.
Earlier in the tournament, Giron, ranked No 58, won against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-4, 6-2) and No 7 seed Cameron Norrie (6-3, 6-4).
