Rublev battles past slumping Schwartzman in Vienna
Andrey Rublev beat Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-1 on Monday evening. He’ll face the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro in the next round
Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, advanced to the second round of the Vienna Open by beating Argentinian Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-1 at the Wiener Stadthalle on Monday evening.
Rublev, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro next.
2020 Vienna champion Rublev skipped the event in 2022. He stretches his winning streak to six at the event, and has not dropped a set at the 500-level event since 2019.
Schwartzman, ranked 21, has now lost six consecutive matches on tour. He has not won since the US Open’s first round and drops to 31-25 in 2022.
