US Open champion Sinner extends lead atop ATP Rankings; Zverev climbs to No 2
Alcaraz remains at No 3 in the world while Djokovic drops to No 4 in the latest rankings
Italy’s Jannik Sinner extended his lead in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday September 9 after winning the US Open title for the first time in his career. The 23-year-old has 11,180 ranking points, a lead of over 4,000 ranking points over his closest challenger, Alexander Zverev, and the Italian begins his 14th week atop the world rankings.
The German climbs up two spots to move back to his career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world with 7,075 points after reaching the quarter-finals in New York. Carlos Alcaraz, who lost in the second round this year, remains at No 3 with 6,690 points while Novak Djokovic, whose title defence ended in the third round this year drops to No 4 with 5,560 points.

US Open semi-finalists Tiafoe and Draper make big gains in the top 20
American Frances Tiafoe, who reached the semi-finals for the second time in three years, moves up four spots to No 16 while Great Britain’s Jack Draper, who made his first Grand Slam semi-final, jumps five spots to a new career-high No 20.
Australia’s Alexei Popyrin, who defeated Djokovic to reach the fourth round, climbs four spots to No 24, just one spot below his career-high ranking of No 23. Popyrin’s countryman Jordan Thompson and Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who both also made the fourth round, move up to new career-highs of No 29 and No 30 respectively.
American Brandon Nakashima, another player who reached the second week in New York, climbs 10 spots to a new career-high of No 40. Former top 10 player David Goffin, who reached the third round, climbs 14 spots to No 64 – his highest ranking since April 2023.
