American Denis Kudla edged out Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the second round of the US Clay Court Championships at River Oaks Country Club in Houston on Monday.
Kudla, ranked No 137, will play the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson and American J.J. Wolf, the No 5 seed, next.
