Jannik Sinner edges Munar to reach Umag quarter-finals
Jannik Sinner beat Jaume Munar 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday evening and will play Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in the next round
Italian Jannik Sinner, the second seed, defeated Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Croatia Open at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Wednesday evening.
Sinner, ranked No 10, will play Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena next.
He needed six match points to finally close out the final game, but finished off his 32nd win in an hour and 56 minutes.
Sinner is playing his first tournament since losing to Novak Djokovic in five sets at Wimbledon, in the quarter-finals. He improves to 12-4 on clay in 2022.
In the previous round of the Umag, Munar, ranked No 59, edged out Swede Mikael Ymer (4-6, 6-1, 6-4).
