Tsitsipas and Rublev confirm for Team Europe at 2023 Laver Cup
Tsitsipas will be making his fourth appearance for Team Europe in the event while Rublev will be playing in his second Laver Cup
Team Europe has announced the first two players in its line-up – world No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas and world No 6 Andrey Rublev – for this year’s edition of the Laver Cup. The two will play under captain Bjorn Borg at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada from September 22 to 24.
“I am really excited to have Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev as members of our team this year,” Borg said. “They are both incredible young players at the top of their game with a great track record in Laver Cup competition. Stefanos has been part of the team since Geneva in 2019 and Rublev was part of the winning team in Boston in 2021. I know they, like me, will be super motivated to win the Laver Cup back for Team Europe.”
This will be the fourth time that Tsitsipas is playing for Team Europe in the tournament while Rublev is making his second appearance.
“I have great memories of playing Laver Cup and being part of the team, but last year was tough,” Tsitsipass, who has a 3-1 record in singles in Laver Cup, said. “I played with my heart and gave it my best, but unfortunately it didn’t go the way we wanted. Still, we move on, and we have a pretty good track record in Laver Cup so I’m optimistic for this year. I will do everything I can to help Team Europe win the title back in Vancouver.”
“I can’t wait to compete in the Laver Cup once again,” Rublev, who has a 3-0 record in the competition, said. “Being part of the winning team in Boston is a memory that will stay with me forever.”
Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe have been confirmed for this year’s line-up of Team World, which will be captained by John McEnroe.
Team Europe won the first four editions of the Laver Cup while Team World won the Laver Cup the tournament for the first time last year.
